My Arty tag

Hi All, today I am sharing a tag I made for the Gecko Galz cross promotional challenge featuring beautiful Gecko Galz product with A Day for Daisies Stamps.   Speaking of challenges, this months challenge at Gecko Galz is anything goes, have a look at the challenge rules here.
For this tag I used the A Day for Daisies Gather Flower stamp image and the tag background from Gecko Galz April Colors image.    The lace trim was attached with red liner sticky tape to get the ruffled edge, Ranger distress ink in Concord and the ribbon with the butterfly charm I have been hoarding as it was a gift from my friend Valerie.  I like how the stamped image shows through the paper so I chose not to color it in.  Well, that's it for today, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Christmas Card a Week #8

Hi All, week 8!  Whoo hoo, it sure feels good to have 8 Christmas cards done and ready to go!   This card was a bit hard to photograph, the card stock is a deep gray the red border is some leftover industrial plastic, it is see through and the snowflake was die cut from a gift box and it picks up every color of light in the room.  The image is from Gecko Galz Vintage Christmas digital stamps
I added some white lace Stickles to the Mistletoe Berries and red Stickles to the holly berries.  I trimmed the image in some pale blue embossing powder also.  The die cut is from Birds Cards.  I used my new Perfect Layers Mini Tools and Perfect Cutting Mat. to cut the clean red border, don't forget today is the last day of the Perfect Paper Crafting Brand Ambassador Blog hop, see details in the 2 posts below.   That's it, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for all the great comments.   ~Diane

Lilly's of the Valley

Hi All, today I am sharing a card I made for the Gecko Galz design team using this lovely Lilly's of the Valley image from the Pretty Petals Collection.  This has always been one of my favorite flowers, my grandmother grew them in her garden off the porch, I can remember sitting on the glider smelling their sweet scent.  This was a rather simple card to make, I just printed the image on Staples photo paper along with the background paper from It's Not Easy Being Green.  I used my Perfect Layers Rulers to trim a 1/16th frame around the image, distressed the edges with Tim Holtz distress ink, mounted it to a sheet of white card stock that had also been distressed, then mounted that to the background print.  The envelope is lined in the same matching paper printed on to copy paper.  I had the embellishment in my stash for a long time, and decided it would be a great finish to this card.  Well that's it for today, hope you are all enjoying some Spring like weather wherever you are, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Tuesdays tag and card

Hi All, I've started with the tag I made for Tag Tuesday and gone on to show what I made with the tag. For the tag I used some scrap cardboard to cut the tag from, I cut it with my Zing using one of Penny Duncan's free cut files.  I used the image from Geco Galz Travel On, framed it in Stickles, added the lace flower, paper flower, raffia and metal key. I placed the tag on a 5 x 7 card base that has been covered with a die cut made on my Zing.  Not sure that I can call it an actual die cut as I had my blade depth set too high and it merely scratched the surface, so I decided not to waste the piece and used it anyway, I like the look, so I highlighted it with some Ranger Lemonade distress ink.  I also added a little to the envelope liner as it was more beige than yellow.  Pop by Tag Tuesday and see what all the talented folks over there have created for the prompt Keys and Locks.
I am entering this into the
*Top Tip Tuesday challenge metal or faux metal challenge
In keeping with the challenge I must share a tip which I think I did above, even though my die cut did not cut all the way through, it can still be used as a background with a little distress ink.
That's it, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Christmas Card a Week #7

Hi All, I am catching up on my Christmas card challenges, posting them a day earlier each week, pretty soon I may be able to get 2 done in the same week lol.  So I made this card for the *Merry Monday challenge using grey, red and white.  It took a bit of doing but I found the perfect image in Gecko Galz A Rockwell Christmas collection
I was so happy to have the perfect shade of red in Stampin Ups Poppy and the dark grey is a Bazill paper.  I used Stampin Ups Dazzling Diamonds glitter with Art Glitter Glue dries white.  I finished it off with Spellbinders dies to cut the circles and a snowflake embossing folder.
I am also entering these link partys and challenges, hope to see some of you there.

Inspired work

Hi All, this 5 x 7 card is inspired by some really talented artists I follow, I have been looking at their beautiful work with the torn pages and pearls and jewels and lace tumbling out and I really do adore the style, so today this is my take on it.  The image is from Evert Maaskamp is called Rozen, and since there is some sort of "note" written below the image I am stretching it a bit to enter it into
 *City Crafters "Take Note" challenge.
I printed this on Staples matte photo paper, tore the edges.  I did not like the color of the patterned background card stock, (it was on clearance too many years ago to remember who's it is) it was a wrong shade of beige for this piece so I used Tim Holtz Picket Fence Distress stain to lighten it up and some Tim Holtz Mahogany distress stain for the edges.  The pearls are hoarded 2mm and 3mm from Pizzazz Aplenty.
Be sure to pop over to City Crafters and have a look at all the beautiful inspiration there.
I am also entering this into the challenge at

Blooming Beauty's

Hi All, today I am sharing a card I made using the Jodi Lees Natures Garden papers for the flower pot along with the Gecko Galz In my Easter Bonnet ladies.  I die cut the flower pot twice, made an accordion fold from the scrap and glued it to the bottom of the pot for a stand.  I die cut some leaves and stems and flowers, fussy cut the ladies and glued them on.  Added some ink and Stickles to the flowers and glued them onto another scrap that would slide in and out of the pot.  I used a piece of beaded lace trim to hold the top of the flower pot together and allow for the flowers to slide in and out along with the message.  That's it, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Christmas Card a Week #5

Hi All, I found another fun Christmas Card challenge called Merry Monday Christmas challenge  through my friend Leanne, so I made this card to fit the theme of  Chocolate Brown, Green, Gold and White or Cream!   It took me a bit to find the right image but I finally found this one from  Magic Moonlight, it was a free image I saved a long time ago.  I tried gold flock on the little birdies, but I like the Stickles Gold Glitter better.  I used Stampin Up Chocolate Brown for the 1/8th and 1/16th frames I cut with my Perfect Layers Rulers.  The green envelope and background paper are from Gecko Galz Grandmothers House papers.  This is my 5th card for my Christmas card stash, I am really happy I am accomplishing 2 of my goals for this year, to enter more challenges and to get my Christmas cards done before November.  Well, that's it for today, thanks for stopping by.   ~Diane

Pretty in Pink at Tag Tuesday

Hi All, I was off a week and made next weeks tag for today, but I finally did get today's tag done!  I don't know why I struggle so with tags, but I am getting more comfortable making them so that really makes me happy. The prompt this week is Pretty in Pink and this is one of my favorite pink images.   I made this tag with a die cut from Krewella, on my Zing.  I somehow sized this wrong so the bottom 1/2 did not make it on to the cutting area, but no worries, I actually think it works better for a tag like this.   I used an image from Gecko Galz Pixie Magic and their Solerium paper.
I used my Perfect Layers Rulers to trim a 1/16th frame in brown around the image then plopped a beautiful pink rose on it and that it!  Be sure to stop by Tag Tuesday and see what all the talented folks over there are up to.

Christmas Card a week #4

Hi All, here is my 4th Christmas card for the year, I will be so happy when November rolls around and I have these all done!  I used an image from Gecko Galz Christmas Chic collage set along with a sheet from the Gecko Galz Chocolate Box Paper collection.  I cut the fancy frame on my KNK Zing and used some Color Box Pewter ink to highlight it since I did not have the right shade of gray.  The Starburst jewels are from Pizzazz Aplenty,  and the ribbon is from my stash.  To save ink I did not print the liner in the red paper this time instead I embossed the gray paper liner to pick up on the snow flakes on the gray background.  Well that's it, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Flowers in her hair

Hi All, I made this 5x 7 card for the City Crafter Challenge to use a black and white photo.  I used an image from Gecko Galz Beautiful Dreamer collage sheet along with a die cut from Birds Cards that I cut with my Zing.  I trimmed it with some Starform Stickers in silver and a flower from my stash that I added a Fab Scrap pearl center to.  I bought the pearl centers from Blitsy and I love the look of them!  The liner for the envelope is just a white on white print.  That's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Easter card

Hi All, I'm sharing this Easter card I made for the Gecko Galz DT.  This 5 x 7 card uses paper from the Gecko Galz digital Solarium Paper pack along with the image from the Gecko Galz digital Easter Children collage set.  I used Distress ink in China blue to edge the card front and the image.  I mounted the image on a piece of blue vellum and cut it with fancy scissors, added a doily and corner die cut with my Zing and used Diamond Stickles on them both.  Die cut the bunny and added pink coloring then flocked, added a pink jewel eye and the blue crown to the bunny.  I also added some Lace Stickles to the trim on the dresses and bonnet.  That's it for today, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Tag Tuesday Maps, Charts and Diagrams

Hi All, I chose an aerial map of Michigan showing the effect of the Arctic Vortex on my tag today.  Michigan is known as the "Mitten" state because our shape resembles a mitten.  Most Michiganders will point to a spot on their hand to show you exactly where in Michigan they live.  We have had so much snow here this year that the form of the mitten is badly distorted by the Great lakes being frozen over the land.  Below is a better shot of what we should look like.

That's it, I had fun trying to come up with an idea for this one.  All of the folks at Tag Tuesday are so clever I knew I could not get away with just a pretty background of a map unless it had some kind of real meaning, lol.  Thank you for your encouraging comments and thanks for looking.  ~Diane

colored papers (this one is one of my favorites), along with the image from My Little Chickadee.  I printed the image twice on matte photo paper, fussy cut the ribbons and flowers, added a little foam
underneath to give it a decoupaged look, then  I added yellow flock to the chicks.  I mounted that on
to a piece of bright yellow card stock, used my Perfect Layers Rulers to cut a 1/16 frame around it.  I printed the Its not easy being Green in 5 x7 for the card front on matte photo paper and mounted the image to it.  I then trimmed around the yellow border with some Yellow Stickles.  I printed the matching envelope liner in a 4 x 6 size on regular copy paper and trimmed it with pretty scissors and glued the top to an envelope.

Gecko Galz and Jodi Lee together

Hi All, today I am sharing my Gecko Galz DT cross promotional piece using Jodi Lee Natures Garden papers along with Gecko Galz Retro Girls collage sheet.
For this 5 x 7 pop up card I printed Jodi Lees Natures Garden papers twice, once for the inside and again to line the inside of the card.  I used the Stampin up Word Window punch to cut slits inside the card, lined up the cuts and scored them to fold opposite the center fold and make a shelf inside the card, then glued the 2 cards together.  I printed Gecko Galz It's Not Easy Being Green paper then used my Zing to die cut the grass, folded it and placed rows of it inside the card and added a piece to the outside of the card also.  I fussy cut the Gecko Galz Retro Girls  and glued them into the rows of grass.  I colored in the image on the card front with my Letraset Promarkers and color copied a plastic butterfly from my stash onto matte photo paper then fussy cut it also.
Please stop by Gecko Galz and see all the amazing projects my DT sisters have made, they will amaze you with their talent.

Christmas Card a Week #3

Hi All, I made this card for the Christmas card challenges, it feels really good to have a bit of a jump on my Christmas cards I must say.  I had a busy week and I was afraid I would not get one made, but I did, so here it is!  I used Gecko Gals Grandmothers House digital papers for the envelope and the card. The sweet image is from the Christmas Children collage collection. I also used Tim Holtz distress ink, die cut snowflakes covered in Dazzling Diamonds Glitter by Stampin Up, some iridescent rhinestones from Pizzaz A Plenty along with the bakers twine.
If anyone knows of any good tutorials (that really help) with photographing I would love to know.  I have really been struggling with trying to get a good picture to post, seems like I end up taking 10 photos, trying to adjust them all in Pic Monkey with cropping, re-sizing and "auto adjust".  I have to be honest Pic Monkey improves them greatly, but I would love to learn where to put the lights and such so I could maybe just take 1 or 2.  I seem to get a lot of yellow backgrounds too and I am photographing on white, when I switched to a black background I got a lot of what looked like dust in the photo.  There was no dust on the black, I used the lint roller on it before I photographed it but I can't get that to go away either.  That's it, thanks for coming by.  ~Diane

Hi All, great news today to go along with this Gecko Galz DT piece.  In celebration of our third annual retreat we are having a one day buy one get one sale for all our friends and followers. Just go to the Gecko Galz Site and for every product you buy you get another absolutely FREE!
If you look closely at the image you can see her looking into a hand mirror, so I thought this would be a great idea for a Birthday card for one of my girlfriends.   For this 5 x 7 card I chose the image from Springtime Gems, I printed it on matte photo paper then glued it to a piece of Stampin Up dark purple card stock, I trimmed a 1/16 border of purple with my Perfect Layers Ruler.  I used the free die cut of the rose pattern from Birdscards in green for the card and in purple for the envelope liner.  I added a piece of purple behind the green die cut.  The ribbon and lace trims were then attached, then I added my image and border on top with some foam tape.

Longing for Spring

Hi All, today is still so cold here in Michigan, I am truly longing for some Spring like weather!  So I guess that's reflected in today's tag for Tag Tuesdays  prompt "Pleats, Folds and Tucks".  I also wanted to incorporate the  City Crafters challenge "Do You Speak English" into my tag.  I had this great lace trim that is already pleated for me so I was excited to build a tag around it. I used a free image from Fripperies and Butterflies along with Gecko Galz Digital Spring Dreams mini paper pack.  The pleated lace was originally a bit wide so I cut it in 1/2 lengthwise.  I guess I did all three here after all, the lace itself is pleated, I tucked it around the whole edge of the tag, then folded it into 3 bottom layers.  I also added some Tim Holtz Distress ink and pearls, mounted it with my Perfect Layers Rulers too.
Be sure to stop by both blogs Tag Tuesday and  City Crafter and see all the beautiful work those designers made too.
That's it, thanks for stopping by to look.  ~Diane

Adding a Watermark and other fun things with Pic Monkey

Hi All, on with another tutorial, this one will show you how to make a watermark for your finished work in Pic Monkey and also crop you photo for blog presentation.  This sweet image also comes from Gecko Galz Pretty Seed Packs, they were all on the same collage sheet together.  This is a step by step instruction on how I add a Watermark using PicMonkey free photo editing software.  I do want to mention they have some really awesome photo editing tools if you sign up for the purchased version, but for this tutorial, the free version is all you need.
We will start the same as before, pretty much the same instructions except you will be doing it just a little different.  Since I already added the watermark to the above card I will work with one I have not done yet.  I will walk you through the same paces just to make it easier for you.  I hate it when you have to go back to another tutorial to follow along with the one you are working on, so forgive me for repeating the same instructions.
Go to PicMonkey, free and safe photo editing web site.
Click on the icon that says edit, right next to the icon that says touch up.
That will open a dialogue box (file upload) on your computer allowing you to choose where the item you want to add your Watermark to is stored.
Depending on your filing system (as in how you save your files), keep clicking on folders or whatever you have to click to open until you can click on the actual photo.  Once you have the photo click on it (the photo) and then click Open at the bottom of the dialogue box.  This one was in my Dropbox folder.
That will put the photo on the Pic Monkey editing page.
On the left side column of that page you will see a bunch of tools, under Basic Edits, you want Crop, click on it and you will see a box inside your photo image.  You can click on the center and move the box, then drag the corners in or out, by using the click and hold (left side of mouse) to drag it into position on just the area you want to use.  Once you are happy with it framed exactly like you want, look to the Crop toolbar again you will see  a green Apply.  Click on that, the rest of the picture will fall away after you hit APPLY.
Here I will show you a few more things you can do before you add your Watermark.  There are some fun tools tools to the left, there is the AUTO ADJUST button above the word CROP and there is a similar tool called EXPOSURE down the list.  You can use both of these tools to clean up some bad photography.  Sometimes using AUTO ADJUST makes it too dark, if you don't like the outcome, use the dark gray toolbar above the photo Open, Save, Share and that back arrow next to share.  That arrow will take you back a step.  I usually try Auto Adjust first, if I don't like it I undo it and try Exposure, sometimes I use Exposure to brighten it up them Auto Adjust to make it clearer.  Below is AUTO ADJUST.

Below are the options available in Exposure, I use the yellow Auto Adjust , then the Green Apply, feel free to play with the slider bars for brightness, highlights, shadows and contrast, if you don't like it say Cancel instead of Apply.

While we are at it, if you have a crooked picture, ROTATE will straighten it out.  See the circle on a line under the word Straighten, just move the circle to straighten out your picture. (I tilted this one since it was already straight).
Have fun and try the other tools there too.  But for now, ON TO THE WATERMARK!
Look to the left, you are in Basic Edits the box icon, see the icon Tt, 4th one down?  That is TEXT click on it.
See all the lovely fonts there are to choose from?  Many are free, the ones with a crown need the premium purchased Pic Monkey, I use the ones that are free.
Click on the font you want, I use Arial.
Look closely at this page, to get here I chose Arial then "clicked on" ADD TEXT,  (you can't actually add your text where it says "Add Text", you have to go to where it says "Type your text here" to do it so follow carefully here.
See the box that says "type your text here" in the center of my photo? SINGLE click on that box and type in your watermark.
See the box on the right, that will not work properly until you type in the watermark, after you have it typed in single click outside the text box once on to the card background.  Now you can click back on to the watermark once and drag it where you want it, and use the tools on the right now.  You can change the color of the text by using the the circle you see between the the words Color and Fade.  You know Bold and Italic, then there is position, left, center and right.  Then you have size, you can use the circle, or if you want continuity in your Watermark you can also click the down arrow next to 142 and adjust the size, I set mine at 72.
Once you are happy, click outside the box or on Save in the gray bar above the picture and the white text box will fall away.  I usually just click on Save.
Above is Save to my computer (the green bar, it opens this text box, you choose where you want to save it to.  I do not change the name on these files as I do not want to keep both copies, if you want 1 with and 1 without a watermark, you would change the name of the file by clicking on File name before you click on Save to my computer.
One last tip here, if you add an extra click to the page, or click on or off where otherwise instructed it won't let you add the watermark, that is why I was so specific as to when and where to click.  If it happens you can back button (next to Share) and start over.
Any questions, let me know, I am happy to help.
Thanks for looking, ~Diane
